Ruby Red Under UV Light

The chromium present in ruby causes a natural red fluorescence which is stimulated by both visible and invisible (ultraviolet) light.  http://gemologyproject.com/wiki/index.php?title=Ruby

I found these rubies in a bag of mining dirt. I had the nicest one made into a necklace and found out that it was a Star Ruby. When I heard that a ruby would fluoresce under UV light, I had to try it out. They glow a beautiful red under the light. I’m still looking into the other rocks in the photos.
