Ducks at Claude Peteet Mariculture Center

Ring-necked Ducks and Lesser Scaup look a lot alike. The male Ring-necked Duck has the dark back with a white spur on its side. It also has a black tipped bill with a white band. The male Lesser Scaup’s back is lighter and it doesn’t have the spur. Its bill does not have the black and white tip. The female Bufflehead has a distinctive white spot on its cheek.
