I love seeing and hearing woodpeckers in my yard. I am blessed to see so many types in my yard during the year. This past week, I spotted 4 types: Red-headed, Red-bellied (male with red on top of head and female with white head / red neck), Downy (male with red on head and female with only white / black head), and Northern Flicker. The Northern Flicker or Yellowhammer is the Alabama State Bird.
