While on a new boardwalk on Dauphin Island, I noticed a couple looking up into the trees and hearing a lot of bird noises. They pointed out 2 nest of Great Blue Herons at the top of the pine trees. I kept looking and found at least 3 more nest. When herons nest in the same area it is called a heronry. If more than one type of water bird is nesting in an area it is called a rookery.
