Red-bellied Woodpecker

The male Red-bellied Woodpecker has a solid red cap that goes from its head to its back. It is named for a rosy patch on its belly that isn’t easy to see. It also has red eyes. They are fun to watch on the feeder because they don’t always like to share. They’ve been visiting my feeders for black oil sunflower seed for years. I think they may nest in my yard because I see juveniles visiting the feeder as well. I’ve never seen them in the nest, but I do see the adults enter holes in the upper reaches of trees in my yard.
